This completely new unit features a 4-inch capacity gravity-fed chipper, combined with a 15-inch wide mulcher section. It's designed to run on a standard 540-RPM tractor PTO. The tractor can be as small as 14 HP.
All maintenance and operational functions are accessible from the top of the unit. The entire top half of the machine hinges open when the front A-Frame is tilted forward. The mulching screen and 10 mulching knives are of 12-gauge steel, and the screen simply rotates out over the knives from the top. The screen is initially available with 3/4" holes, and can be ordered with a selection of holes from 1/2" to 1" diameter for different applications.
Both the chipper flywheel and the mulcher knives are mounted on a single hexagonal shaft turning at 1,710 RPM. The entire shaft can be taken out, complete with bearings, with the removal from above of four bearing bolts and the drive belt. The chipper flywheel knives are of "chipper" steel, and have 2 edges. The adjustable bed knife is of the same material, and has 4 edges. For compact storage, the mulcher feed hopper and mulching chamber top are hinged, and can be un-latched and rotated down to the left side. The chipper hopper removes by lifting it straight up off the lower chipper housing when the mulcher chamber is open.
The 240F features one-wrench belt replacement and tension adjustment, for ease of maintenance. Remove the pin securing the front A-Frame to the mulcher body, and tilt the A-Frame forward. Loosen the 1/2" nut on the right side of the jackshaft beam. Lift the beam up to remove and replace the drive belt. Tighten and loosen the two adjusting nuts to achieve correct tension.
